Call Your Girlfriend, Or Robyn Will

When you first see Robyn perform, her appearance is a little unsettling...and then you realize, she's awsome Robyn recently performed on the 2011 holiday SNL episode featuring host "Katy Perry" and the Swedish music guest "Robyn". This is a reunion for the duo since Robyn opened for Perry while throughout her "California Dreams" tour in 2010. Robyn said in an interview, immediately following the taping from Saturday's live sketch comedy program, that she's the second Swedish performer to appear on SNL following ABBA 30 years ago. Robyn offered up two songs: the Grammy-nominated 'Call Your Girlfriend' and 'Dancing On My Own.' On the former, she showed why she's the rare dance-pop artist that indie peeps can get behind. Backed by two drummers, she worked it in stretch pants and platform boots, at one point following a backward tumble with a quick series of floor-humping pelvic thrusts. Following that up with 'Dancing On My Own,' the singer changed into a brown tank top, mesh shirt and different (arguably better) pair of spandex pants. She mostly stood still for the first verse but then let loose, making with Pete Townshend windmills, energetic air drums and hand motions that suggested either Broadway hopeful and over-caffeinated NFL ref. At first, I thought she was some odd looking elvish creature running around. That never changes actually, but this girl makes it work. |
